Dogs are set to take centre stage alongside horses at Cornbury House Horse Trials this September, with the inaugural Diddly Dog Show joining the event’s programme for the first time.

Taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026, the new attraction is being supported by Diddly Squat Farm and will invite visitors to put their four-legged companions forward for a series of countryside-themed classes.

The event will also raise money for the Ernest Cook Trust, with all entry fees donated to the educational charity, which works to connect young people with the countryside through outdoor learning, environmental stewardship and hands-on experiences in nature.

From pub dogs to horsebox companions

The Diddly Dog Show will celebrate the many roles dogs play in rural and countryside life, with classes including Best Pub Dog, Best Tractor or Horsebox Companion, Best Young Handler (12 and under) and Best Yard Companion.

A Best in Show will also be awarded across the weekend.

Judges, the full class schedule and entry details are expected to be announced in due course.

The show will run from 2.00pm to 5.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday, forming part of a wider Cornbury weekend that combines international eventing with family entertainment, boutique shopping, locally sourced food and drink and hospitality at Cornbury Park.

David Howden, Founder and President of Cornbury House Horse Trials, said the new attraction would add an inclusive element to the event while supporting a good cause.

“Dogs are such an important part of countryside life, and this felt like a brilliant way to add something fun and inclusive to the weekend, while also raising money for the Ernest Cook Trust.”

Diddly Squat Farm’s Lisa Hogan said dogs were already a central part of life on the farm and that the event offered an opportunity to celebrate them while supporting the charity.

“The Diddly Dog Show is exactly the sort of fun countryside event we’re delighted to be part of.”

The inaugural show adds another distinctly rural strand to Cornbury House Horse Trials, with the organisers expecting plenty of characters among the canine competitors when the event arrives in September.

Those interested in taking part can register their interest ahead of the release of the full entry information, class schedule and timings.

A valid entrance ticket for Cornbury House Horse Trials will be required to enter the Diddly Dog Show.
