Construction has begun on a development of 26 new homes in Charlbury, as housebuilder Deanfield Homes starts work on Clementine Gardens, a scheme of detached and semi-detached properties on the edge of the Oxfordshire market town.
The development will comprise two, three and four-bedroom homes, with designs intended to reflect the area’s traditional Cotswold architecture. The company expects a show home to be ready for viewing in spring 2027.
The start of construction was marked by a site visit from Kirsten Cook, Deanfield Homes’ commercial manager, and Jason Thacker, its contracts manager, who met members of the construction team from Conlon.
The homes will be named after different varieties of rose, drawing on the connection between Clementine Churchill, wife of wartime prime minister Winston Churchill, and the nearby Ditchley Park estate, where the couple spent time during the Second World War. Clementine Churchill was also known for her interest in roses and gardening.

According to the housebuilder, the properties will feature open-plan kitchen and dining areas, premium kitchen appliances and layouts designed to maximise natural light. Energy-efficiency measures will include air-source heat pumps and high-performance thermal glazing.
“It’s fantastic to see work getting underway at Clementine Gardens and to start bringing our vision for this stunning development to life,” said Cook. “The whole team is looking forward to seeing these unique homes take shape and creating a wonderful new place to live in Charlbury in 2027.”
Elaine Stratford, Deanfield Homes’ sales and marketing director, said the development’s architecture had been designed to complement Charlbury’s established character while providing modern homes.
Charlbury is a market town in the Cotswolds with a railway station offering services to Oxford, Reading and London Paddington. The town has independent businesses, pubs and cafés, alongside local schools and healthcare facilities.
Deanfield Homes has invited prospective buyers to register their interest in Clementine Gardens ahead of the planned show home opening. Further details, including availability and pricing, can be requested from the developer.
