About The Punter, Oxford

The Punter is a quirky gastropub situated on the banks of the Isis, on Osney Island in Oxford.

Originally the Waterman when it opened in 1871, this pub has undergone a thorough overhaul recently, including a change of name, and is now much more food-orientated.

The pub relaunched in July 2020 with a completely vegetarian and vegan menu. Expect Sweet Potato & Katsu Burgers, Indian Butternut Squash Curry, Vietnamese Charlotte Potato and Chickpea Stew, Italian Ragu Bolognaise with Tagliatelle & Parmesan.

It’s located on Osney Island, a small area of streets surrounded by branches of the Thames, and the pub attracts a good local drinking crowd from the Island and from boaters mooring up on the river outside. And the Thames path goes past the front door, too.
