About The Swan Inn, Swinbrook
Situated alongside the attractive Windrush River and very much at the heart of the local village community in Swinbrook, The Swan Inn has a rich history associated with it. The Inn is owned by the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire’s estate, the last of Mitford sisters, and – along with the neighbouring cottage – forms the residual part of the estate inherited by the family at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Photographs around the pub celebrate the connections to the Mitfords and village life.
Archie and Nicola Orr-Ewing, who were already successfully running The King’s Head Inn at Bledington, took over The Swan Inn in 2006. They are now responsible for both pubs and are just as hands-on as the excellent bar team, chefs and other staff they employ.
Eat
At The Swan Inn, there is a healthy balance between good food and a good atmosphere. Expect to find a seasonal menu that offers a modern take on classic British and European dishes. These high-quality, seasonal dishes are made with produce sourced from the local area like prime Hereford Beef from University Farm, Bledington. Their philosophy is that the raw ingredients are every bit as important as the finished product, and so they are meticulous about where they source produce.
Sleep
There are 11 bedrooms at The Swan Inn, spread across two buildings – the Riverside Cottage, and the Stables. Five bedrooms are available in the Riverside Cottage accommodation. These rooms are very comfortable with gorgeous views of the River Windrush and rolling fields.
A further six bedrooms are available in a converted Cotswold stone barn. Working closely with the architect appointed by the Dowager Duchess to renovate the impressive Cotswold stone barn, Nicola has stamped her personality on the styling and interior décor of these newer bedrooms.
