Annual cycling event Bike Oxford set to return to city for its 11th year

Now in its 11th year, Bike Oxford, an annual cycling event, will be hosted at Oxford University Rugby Club on Sunday, 23 June, and welcomes riders of all ages and abilities from all parts of the community.

The event, with real community spirit, is championed by Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council as a way of encouraging active transport and a healthy lifestyle. It aims to attract over 800 cyclists and 200 walkers who will complete rides and walks of varying distances.

It has grown from humble beginnings, and seen off the COVID years, to now include a walking event and an additional cycling event run in conjunction with Cyclability, enabling individuals who may require a more individualised approach to participate.

The team at Bike Oxford are pleased to confirm title sponsors for both the cycling and walking events in the 2024 calendar.

Richard Best, founder of the event first launched in 2014, explained how delighted he was that lawyers, Pennington’s Manches Coopers and chartered accountants UHY Ross Brooke had confirmed their sponsorship of the 2024 Bike and Walk Oxford events.

Richard said, “Following the challenges presented by COVID, we are really encouraged to see a growing interest in cycling and walking again and cannot understate how grateful we are to our sponsor partners.

“We also owe a big thanks to the Condors Cycling Club, who incidentally have just been awarded Cycling Weekly’s Club of the Year accolade, for their ongoing support. The 2024 event promises to be a real celebration of the city’s enthusiasm for cycling and active lifestyles.”

Registration is open, and an EarlyBird discount runs until the end of January. Prospective riders and walkers can learn more and sign up through the Bike Oxford Website.

The 2024 event is once again supporting Maggie’s, Oxford. Their beautiful Treehouse and kind cancer support specialists offer a safe and healing space for anyone affected by cancer. There is the opportunity to add a donation to Maggie’s at the point of registration, and riders and walkers are encouraged to fundraise.

Iconic Cycling Events is collaborating with Cyclability Oxford again to ensure the Bike Oxford weekend will be a fully inclusive sportive event.

There will be an adapted cycling event taking place at the Horspath Athletics track in a safe, traffic-free environment. With their extensive range of adapted cycles, tandems, side-by-sides, tricycles, recumbent bikes and even a wheelchair transporter, Wheels for All Oxford has something for everyone.

Local businesses are actively encouraged to get in touch with the Oxford Champion, Sarah, at sj@iconiccyclingevents.co.uk to explore how you could use Bike Oxford as a cost-effective way of running a company day or entertaining clients.

The event provides an excellent opportunity for team building, networking, general engagement of staff and clients, business development and corporate social responsibility, all whilst enjoying a great day out on the bike.
