Music lovers in Wantage are invited to share in one of the biggest nights in the classical calendar as The Rivus, Cognatum’s new over-55s estate, live-screens The Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 13 September.
The relaxed evening will be held in the estate’s elegant lounge, bringing residents and members of the local community together to enjoy the festive finale of the BBC Proms season. After eight weeks and more than eighty concerts, the grand occasion promises a rich mix of musical highlights.
Elim Chan will conduct the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a programme that includes the traditional anthems, folk songs and singalongs, alongside captivating solo performances and plenty of surprises.
The event reflects Cognatum’s focus on building community spirit and fostering meaningful connections through shared experiences.
“Screening big TV moments offers those who may live alone a wonderful opportunity to share special events, making them a sociable occasion, and providing an opportunity to chat, connect, and discover mutual interests with meaningful connection,” said Paul Adams, director of property for Cognatum.
He added: “Shared viewing can be a relaxing and enjoyable ritual, allowing individuals to slow down and take a break from the stresses of daily life.”
The evening begins with arrivals from 6.30pm, ahead of the screening at 7pm. Complimentary refreshments will be served, and guests will benefit from free parking and easy access at the Grove Road venue in Wantage (OX12 7BY).
The event is free to attend, but booking is essential as numbers are limited. Reservations can be made by emailing rivussales@cognatum.co.uk or calling 07548 558801.
The Rivus is the latest development by Cognatum, an independent not-for-profit company which manages more than 60 retirement estates across central and southern England. Known for creating vibrant, supportive communities, Cognatum’s estates are designed to offer both independence and a strong sense of belonging.
With its combination of beautiful surroundings, sociable atmosphere, and the magic of The Last Night of the Proms, this promises to be an evening of music and connection to remember.
