Oxford-based journalist and photographer Robert Edwards is set to launch a wildlife photography exhibition at Churchill Hospital, aiming to bring moments of calm and connection with nature to cancer patients and their families.

The exhibition will run from 10 January to 28 February 2026 at the South Street Gallery, located between the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre and the Oxford Breast Centre.

Edwards, who has traveled extensively capturing exotic wildlife, hopes the exhibition will offer a “gentle distraction” to patients facing challenging news and ongoing treatments.

Inspired by his mother’s own cancer journey and a lifelong love of nature, Edwards is also using the project to fundraise for the Oxford Hospitals Charity, with proceeds from print sales going directly toward vital patient care, research, and hospital environment improvements.

To cover initial costs for printing and framing, Edwards has launched a crowdfunding campaign and is inviting the local community to support the initiative. “Every contribution, large or small, helps fill the hospital with life and colour,” he said.

Edwards’ career in photography evolved from his earlier work as a journalist and filmmaker in the Middle East and South America, where he discovered his passion for capturing the natural world. Now based in Oxford with his wife and their pet cat Evie, he is combining his expertise and personal experience to create a meaningful impact locally.

The exhibition is hosted by Oxford Hospitals Charity Arts Coordinator Ruth Charity, who oversees creative projects aimed at making hospital spaces more welcoming and humane. Visitors to the South Street Gallery can expect stunning images of wildlife, creating a peaceful environment for patients, families, and staff.

Edwards’ message is simple: art and nature can provide comfort, hope, and distraction for those navigating the challenges of cancer treatment. The exhibition, along with community support via crowdfunding, offers an opportunity for Oxford residents to contribute to a cause that improves the wellbeing of patients during a difficult time.
