Majestic Wine in Summertown is set to return to 276 – 292 on Banbury Road in Summertown – its former location, before the previous structures, a garage and an office block, were demolished in July 2019 to make way for a £15 million mixed-use redevelopment.
The new building will comprise a mixed-use scheme comprising 4 retail units at the ground floor level, a 180 bedroom EasyHotel over three floors and 6 maisonette flats over the remaining two floors.
Oxford City Council gave planning permission for the new building in 2018, despite numerous objections, including from nearby Summer Fields School.
The plans were submitted to regenerate the under-utilised brownfield site and improve the quality and appearance of Banbury Road by replacing the existing 1960s garage and office block.
The site was also previously occupied by estate agent Knight Frank and Blue Cross charity shop. Wallers Estate Agent opened on the site for a brief period before the redevelopment.
According to a planning application to City Council, Majestic Wine will occupy retail unit 4 of the new development. The store temporarily relocated to 240 Banbury Road.
The full address is – Retail Unit 4 276 – 292 Banbury Road Oxford Oxfordshire OX2 7DY.

Work on the new hotel is back on track, as easyHotel in Summertown looks to open its doors this autumn, with rooms from £25.20 per night. Construction was stopped briefly due to the first COVID-19 lockdown measures in March 2020 but resumed in June.
All bedrooms will be air-conditioned and fully heated, with an en-suite shower room with WC, washbasin and shower.
