Oxford United supporters will once again be able to leave the car at home on matchdays, with seven dedicated bus services connecting communities across Oxfordshire with the Kassam Stadium during the 2026/27 League One season.
The Football Special services, operated by Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel, will provide direct links to Grenoble Road for fans travelling from towns and villages across the county.
Thames Travel will operate the OX1, OX2 and OX5, connecting the Kassam Stadium with Wantage, Grove, Abingdon, Didcot and Bicester.
The OX3 and OX4 will serve supporters travelling from further west, linking Carterton, Brize Norton, Witney, Eynsham, Botley and Burford with the stadium.
Oxford Bus Company will operate the OX7, serving Kidlington, Summertown, Marston, Headington and Cowley, while the OX8 will connect Chinnor, Thame, Wheatley, Thornhill Park & Ride and Risinghurst with the Kassam.
The services return in time for Oxford United’s first home fixture of the new season against MK Dons on Saturday 15 August.
Free travel for children in August
There is an additional incentive for younger supporters at the start of the season.
Children aged five to 15 will be able to travel free throughout August under the government-backed scheme, including on the dedicated Oxford United matchday services.
That means families travelling to the opening home fixture will be able to take advantage of free bus travel for children, potentially making matchdays more affordable.
The savings are set to continue into the second half of the season, when the current £3 adult fare cap is due to fall to £2 from January as part of the government’s nationwide fare cap initiative.
For supporters making regular journeys to the Kassam, the reduction could make public transport a more attractive option for getting to home games.
Luke Marion, Managing Director of Go Thames Valley, said the Football Special services continued to provide an important connection between communities across Oxfordshire and the stadium.
“The demand from fans wanting to travel sustainably on matchdays remains high,” he said.
He added that free travel for children during August and the planned £2 fare cap would help make public transport more accessible.
Other routes to the Kassam Stadium
The dedicated Football Specials aren’t the only option for supporters travelling to Oxford United matches.
Oxford Bus Company’s 3A service connects Oxford railway station and the city centre with the Kassam Stadium via Iffley, Rose Hill and Littlemore.
The 5 also links the railway station and city centre with Cowley and Blackbird Leys, while the recently improved 600 service provides connections from Headington, Temple Cowley, Greater Leys, Redbridge Park & Ride, Abingdon Road and the railway station.
With Oxford United embarking on another League One campaign, the network gives supporters from across the county a range of options for reaching the Kassam Stadium without driving.
