Thames Travel has launched a new bus service connecting Goring and Wallingford, ensuring continued public transport provision in South Oxfordshire.

The 134 service, introduced in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, began this month and will operate up to every hour, Monday to Friday.

Running between Goring & Streatley Station and Wallingford Market Place, the route serves key stops including Cleeve, South Stoke, North Stoke, Mongewell, and Wallingford Community Hospital. The service replaces the previous community-run operation by Going Forward Buses.

Although the number of journeys remains unchanged and the timetable is broadly similar — with only minor adjustments — the switch to a larger bus will provide greater capacity, accommodating demand on busier journeys.

Luke Marion, Managing Director of Thames Travel, said: “We’re pleased to provide this new service in South Oxfordshire, ensuring the network continues for bus passengers in the area. We were asked to step in and help maintain the service and thanks to support from Oxfordshire County Council, were able to help.

“Congratulations to Michael Ward on delivering a fantastic community service for many years and we wish him a long and happy retirement. We now look forward to building on the service welcoming more people on board.”

The move ensures that residents of Goring, Wallingford, and surrounding villages retain vital links to local facilities, transport hubs, and healthcare services. The new timetable for the 134 service is available on the Oxford Bus Company website.

Thames Travel, based in Didcot, is Oxfordshire’s third-largest bus operator, running a wide range of routes across the county.

The company has increasingly partnered with local authorities to expand services and improve sustainable travel options, reinforcing its role in maintaining crucial transport connections for communities across South Oxfordshire.
