The concept design for the Tinbergen building replacement – a new Life and Mind Building – has been completed and the design team is drawing up the documents to submit for planning. A public consultation event is scheduled for June 2020. The University will be submitting a planning application to Oxford City Council by June 2020.
Due to the current situation, the University has arranged this virtual consultation to put forward the University’s proposals for the redevelopment of the Tinbergen building into a world-leading centre for Life and Mind Sciences.
The existing Tinbergen building is located on the corner of St Cross Road and South Parks Road. Oxford City Council approved the University’s planning application for its demolition along with various enabling works in September 2019, to allow redevelopment of the site.
The new building will be home to the Department of Experimental Psychology and a new Department of Biology, combining the existing departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology. While it will occupy the same site as the existing Tinbergen building, it aims to enhance this gateway to Oxford’s Science Area.
You are invited to view the proposal at Life and Mind Information Boards (17.76 MB) and to provide feedback via an online feedback survey. The University will review all feedback and will take it into account before details are finalised, and the detailed planning application submitted. This consultation will close on 20 June 2020.
If you have any queries about the virtual event, please send them to lifeandmind@admin.ox.ac.uk.
