Oxfordshire-based charity Yellow Submarine opens Life-Changing Bakery

Oxfordshire-based charity Yellow Submarine has announced the opening of its brand-new Life-Changing Bakery, a dedicated facility providing vital work experience and life skills to adults with learning disabilities.

The bakery marks a major milestone for Yellow Submarine, which already runs two popular cafes in Oxford and Witney, operated by trainees and their tutors.

The expansion will enable the charity to fulfil more orders, support additional trainees, and increase the reach of its unique range of Life-Changing Bakes — products sold online and stocked by local outlets.

Notably, two of their bakes recently received Great Taste Awards 2025, a remarkable achievement for the small charity. These products are sold online and stocked by a handful of local outlets.

Acclaimed television presenter and Bake-Off judge Prue Leith will attend the launch event on Monday, 15 September 2025, at Unit 33, Stanley Court, OX29 0TB, to officially cut the ribbon at 6.20pm.

A spokesperson for Yellow Submarine said: “We are so delighted to have finally reached this stage, to be opening our new bakery really is a dream come true.

“The project has been running since 2019, and has already enabled us to teach new skills to so many of our trainees, as well as increase our customer base.

“The support for the new bakery has been overwhelming and we’re so excited to have Prue join us to officially cut the ribbon!”

Since 2019, the Life-Changing Bakery project has taught new skills to many trainees while growing its customer base. The charity is excited to expand its impact further through this new space.

Yellow Submarine is an award-winning Oxfordshire charity that believes people with learning disabilities and autism deserve to live life to the full. The charity recognises that many young people leave school with limited life skills, which can lead to isolation and poor life chances.

To address this, Yellow Submarine works with young people from the age of 11 in community settings to build social skills, confidence, independence, and ultimately employability. Through its cafés, traineeships, and activity programmes, the charity provides vital opportunities for personal growth.

At the same time, Yellow Submarine offers essential support and respite for families and carers.
