About St John’s Church, Kidlington
Overview
St John’s Church exists to enable its community to follow the example of Jesus in love, concern, and understanding, welcoming all people to discover the love of Christ. Since its construction in 1957–58, St John’s has served the southern part of Kidlington, a growing post-war housing area, as both a place of worship and a vibrant community hub.
The church combines spiritual and practical spaces, hosting weekday parish activities, social events, and local community projects while maintaining a welcoming environment for reflection and prayer.

History
St John’s began shortly after World War II, with services held in a small wooden church in the meadows. The current site was donated in 1955 by Taylor Woodrow Homes Ltd, and the first stage of construction opened in 1958, followed by the completed church in 1959. Subsequent developments included expanded vestries, the Lady Chapel, and ongoing renovations to maintain and enhance both the church and community spaces.
The church has a rich tradition of community craftsmanship, with decorative elements such as the Parish Tapestry and St John the Baptist frontal reflecting the creativity and dedication of local parishioners.
