Oxford-based medical imaging innovator Adaptix Ltd has announced the first US clinical installation of its Adaptix Ortho350 imaging system, marking a major milestone in the evolution of orthopedic diagnostics.
The breakthrough technology has been installed at The Hand to Shoulder Center in South Florida, led by world-renowned hand and upper limb surgeon Dr Alejandro Badia MD.
With this installation, Dr Badia becomes the first clinical user in the United States of the Adaptix Ortho350, an advanced 3D X-ray imaging system designed to transform how orthopedic injuries and conditions are diagnosed.
The system delivers high-resolution 3D images that provide significantly greater visibility into bone structures and surrounding tissues, while operating at a substantially lower radiation dose and cost than conventional CT scans.
The Adaptix Ortho350 brings CT-like 3D detail directly into the clinic, enabling clinicians to access advanced imaging at the point of care.
This reduces the need for referrals, delays and additional radiation exposure typically associated with traditional imaging technologies, representing a significant step forward in patient-centred orthopedic care.
Dr Badia has already reported immediate clinical benefits from using the system. He said:
“We have already seen a significant impact with this new technology. On the very first day, I was able to rule out a hook of hamate fracture using the technology in the sagittal plane, that would normally have required a CT scan.
“Having this level of detail immediately, in the clinic, is a game changer. It allows us to make faster, more confident decisions and dramatically improves the experience for our patients.”
The Adaptix Ortho350 uses low-dose tomosynthesis to generate detailed 3D images of extremities, allowing orthopedic specialists to visualise complex anatomy and subtle injuries with greater precision. This capability supports more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning across a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Sarah Small, Chief Executive Officer at Adaptix, described the installation as a defining moment for the company. She said:
“Partnering with Dr Badia, one of the most respected leaders in hand and upper limb surgery, marks a defining moment for Adaptix. Seeing our technology in action at The Hand to Shoulder Center and witnessing the immediate clinical benefits reinforces our belief that 3D imaging should be accessible, affordable and available right where the patients are treated.
“This first US installation is just the beginning. We are excited to bring a new standard of 3D imaging to orthopedic practices across the country & beyond.”
Adaptix Limited is transforming radiology through the development of innovative 3D imaging technologies that are designed to be safer, more compact and more accessible than traditional radiology systems.
