More Leisure Community Trust (MLCT) has confirmed the return of its popular Big Open Weekend, delivering two days of free activities across four Oxford leisure facilities on March 07 and 08.

The community-focused event will give residents the chance to enjoy complimentary swimming sessions, classes, and family-friendly activities designed to promote health and wellbeing in an accessible, welcoming setting.

Across the weekend, visitors can take part in free taster swimming lessons, pool inflatable sessions, family fun swims and a range of children’s activities.

The four participating venues are Barton Leisure Centre, Leys Pools & Leisure Centre, Oxford Ice Rink and Ferry Leisure Centre.

At Leys Pools & Leisure Centre, families can enjoy free soft play sessions and Tag X activities, while Oxford Ice Rink will host complimentary ice-skating taster lessons across both days.

Robert Jennings, Contract Manager for MLCT, which operates the centres in partnership with Serco Leisure, said:

“The Big Open Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for us to highlight everything our centres have to offer, while encouraging people to focus on their health and wellbeing in a fun and welcoming environment.

“Visitors can explore our facilities for free, try a range of activities, and experience the inclusive, friendly atmosphere that makes our centres special. To see what’s on and book your activities, visit our website, we look forward to welcoming you!”

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford at Oxford City Council, added:

“It’s great news that The Big Open Weekend is returning to our leisure centres. It is a fun-packed weekend and a great reason to try some of the exciting activities that are on offer across the city – for free! Whether you’re interested in soft play sessions, swimming lessons, ice skating, or more, there’s something for everyone. Find your nearest centre and learn more yourself.”

Residents can view the full programme and book activities online via the Oxford City Leisure website.

In partnership with Serco Leisure, More Leisure Community Trust manages five leisure facilities on behalf of Oxford City Council.
