The hospitality sector offers outstanding career growth and progression opportunities, according to the team at Crazy Bear, as the luxury venue marks National Careers Week.

Industry body UK Hospitality estimates that 3.5 million people are employed across the sector, making it the UK’s third largest employer. Hospitality contributes £93 billion annually to the economy and, under favourable conditions, could add a further £29 billion and create 500,000 new jobs by 2027.

To highlight these opportunities, staff at the Crazy Bear in Stadhampton have shared their personal experiences of building rewarding careers within the industry.

Florentina Ionita, Event Sales Coordinator at the Crazy Bear, joined the iconic Oxfordshire venue in April 2017. Since then, she has progressed through roles including waitress, receptionist and events team member.

“I studied tourism and from there, hospitality has always been a part of me. I wanted to meet new people, organise events and celebrate people’s important days,” she said.

“I put a lot of effort into my work. Hospitality is where I feel very comfortable in my career and the Crazy Bear is a great place to work.

“If you are willing and hard-working, you can start as a waitress and build up to running a department.

“I started in the Thai restaurant and then worked in reception. I was doing events at the same time, as I had the opportunity and a manager who rewarded hard work and those who showed a willingness to learn.

“I’m settled now in events, but I’m always happy to help other staff and with training. In hospitality, there is always an opportunity for growth.”

Speaking about the venue itself, she added: “The vibe is unique. When I go out to different restaurants and hotels, I always end up comparing. The Crazy Bear has its own distinctive charm though due to the immersive surroundings and decor.

“The team here is like a family. We look after each other and know each other inside out.”

Josh Mills, Group Recruitment Manager at the Crazy Bear, said:
“Hospitality remains one of the most rewarding and dynamic career paths available, offering a blend of creativity, people skills and progression.

“It’s an industry where individuals can quickly build experience, take on responsibility and grow into leadership roles through hard work and the right attitude.

“At the Crazy Bear, we’re proud to offer a working environment that combines high standards with personality and energy.

“Our teams gain exposure to fantastic service, refined dining and unique guest experiences across our restaurants, bars and hotels, with real opportunities to move across departments and develop professionally.

“We invest in training, support and long-term growth, ensuring our people can build meaningful, sustainable careers in a fast-moving, exciting industry.”

The Crazy Bear is a luxury hotel featuring a range of dining experiences, including its classic English restaurant, the refurbished Hom Thai restaurant, an al fresco terrace and a traditional countryside pub.
