A community group in Banbury will host a special coffee morning next month to mark World Parkinson’s Day and raise awareness of the neurological condition.
Banbury Parkinson’s Group will hold a drop-in coffee morning on Saturday 11 April 2026 from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the RVS Cornhill Centre.
Residents are invited to come along for coffee and cake while learning more about the support available for people living with Parkinson’s in the Banbury area.
World Parkinson’s Day is observed each year on 11 April, bringing the global Parkinson’s community together to raise awareness and show support for people living with the condition.
According to Parkinson’s UK, around 166,000 people in the UK are currently living with Parkinson’s, and the number is rising.
The charity is encouraging communities to mark the day by raising awareness, building connections and highlighting support networks for those affected.
Across the country, events organised by Parkinson’s UK branches, volunteers and support groups will take place to celebrate the community and offer help to people at all stages of their Parkinson’s journey.
Don Rogers said the event is an important opportunity to bring people together.
“As someone living with Parkinson’s, seeing the community come together like this is incredibly moving. World Parkinson’s Day is about shining a light on the challenges we face and the support that’s available.
“By hosting this event on Saturday 11 April, we’re showing that no one is alone with Parkinson’s.”
Caroline Rassell welcomed the initiative and praised the work of local volunteers.
“We are delighted that Banbury Parkinsons Group are showing their support for World Parkinson’s Day by holding this drop in Coffee Morning and helping to spread awareness of Parkinson’s.
“However you mark World Parkinson’s Day this April, you’re part of an incredible community – raising awareness, funding vital research, and making sure people know about support available to them both locally and centrally through the charity.
“We are always inspired by all the ways people get involved, and with everyone’s creativity, generosity and dedication, we can really be there for every Parkinson’s journey.”
