A historic Cotswolds coaching inn dating back more than 360 years has reopened following a major refurbishment, bringing a new chapter to one of Moreton-in-Marsh’s best-known hospitality landmarks.
The Redesdale reopened on Friday 31 July following a sympathetic renovation by new owners Brakspear, which acquired the pub in April 2025.
Situated on Moreton-in-Marsh’s bustling High Street within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Redesdale occupies a former coaching inn first established in 1661.
The refurbishment has retained the character of the historic building while introducing a more contemporary and relaxed setting for dining, drinking and overnight stays.
The refreshed interiors now include a spacious bar, informal dining areas, a private dining room, a new reception area and a garden terrace designed for summer drinks and outdoor dining.
Above the pub and across adjoining buildings, including a converted mews, guests can stay in 33 bedrooms, with further bedroom improvements planned between October 2026 and January 2027.
Seasonal Cotswolds dining
The Redesdale’s new menus focus on seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce, combining elevated pub favourites with more contemporary dishes.
The offering includes classic steaks, pies and stone-baked pizzas alongside a selection of breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner options served throughout the week.
Behind the bar, guests will find a selection of beers including Brakspear’s own ales, alongside seasonal cocktails and a curated wine list featuring both Old and New World varieties.
A base for exploring the Cotswolds
Located in one of the Cotswolds’ most popular market towns, The Redesdale provides a convenient base for exploring nearby villages, countryside walks and cycling routes.
Moreton-in-Marsh is also well connected by rail, with direct GWR services running from London Paddington via Reading and Oxford. The journey time is approximately one hour and 25 minutes, with the station around a 15-minute walk from the pub.
For those arriving by car, The Redesdale offers free off-road parking behind the pub, including three electric vehicle charging points, with additional free parking available nearby.
Part of Brakspear’s Honeycomb Houses collection
The Redesdale joins Brakspear’s Honeycomb Houses managed estate, a collection of some of the operator’s most distinctive pubs and inns.
The portfolio includes several Cotswolds and Oxfordshire venues, including The Kings Head in Cirencester, The Porch House and The Sheep, alongside venues in Nailsworth, Andoversford, Shipston-on-Stour and near Bicester.
With its combination of historic character, refreshed interiors, seasonal dining and access to the surrounding countryside, The Redesdale adds another stylish stay option for visitors exploring the Cotswolds.
