The Blue Boar in Witney has reopened following a six-week refurbishment of the historic pub, its function room and 20 bedrooms.
The pub, at 28 Market Square, closed on 06 July and reopened on Wednesday 09 September. The work was carried out after the Blue Boar became part of Acorn Pubs in 2025, joining a collection of pubs operated by the team behind Brunning & Price.
The refurbishment has included work to the main pub and the Bosworth Suite function room which can accommodate up to 40 seated guests or 75 standing guests and is used for private functions and other events.
The Blue Boar’s 20 bedrooms have also been refurbished. They are offered in Classic, Deluxe and Superior categories, with the rooms retaining individual features intended to reflect the character of the historic building.
The reopening also brings a new seasonal food menu and drinks selection. The menu includes dishes prepared using a wood-fired oven, while the drinks range includes local beers alongside wines, spirits and cocktails.
The pub has also recruited new staff alongside members of the existing team.
Operations Manager Ian Slater said the refurbishment was intended to improve the pub while retaining its established character and connection with the local community.
The Blue Boar occupies a prominent position overlooking Witney’s Market Square. The building dates back to the 17th century and has operated as a longstanding pub and accommodation business in the town.
Acorn Pubs is a collection of nine pubs, primarily located across the Home Counties, with several offering bedrooms. The group operates separately from the wider Brunning & Price brand, although both are owned and operated by the same company.
The Blue Boar is now open for food, drinks, accommodation and private functions. The reopening forms part of Acorn Pubs’ wider programme of refurbishment across its estate.
