About The Three Tuns
Tucked into Henley’s historic market square, The Three Tuns is a 14th-century pub that blends heritage charm with a confident, seasonal kitchen. Just next door to the much-loved local butcher, Gabriel Machin, the pub builds much of its menu around carefully sourced cuts from the counter, alongside the freshest local produce available.
Inside, the atmosphere shifts effortlessly from cosy pub and bar to a more formal dining space, while outside the courtyard and Boat Shed offer relaxed, open-air drinking and dining — ideal for a laid-back afternoon or an easygoing evening with friends.
The food
Head Chef Henry champions a simple, sustainable approach, working closely with local suppliers including Bosley Patch in Henley. The result is a menu that feels both grounded and generous.
Bar snacks range from Tasmin’s sourdough with cultured butter and Manzanilla olives to hot wings and beef croquettes with saffron aioli. Starters might include Thai butternut squash soup, smoked ham terrine with Cultjar pickles, or smoked Scottish salmon from Gabriel Machin with cucumber and dill.
Mains span comforting vegetarian options such as tomato penne, alongside more substantial plates like sea bream with mussels and smoked hollandaise. The Butcher’s Board is a highlight, featuring pork chop with chimichurri, lamb cutlets with cavolo nero, and a strong steak selection — from bavette to sirloin and fillet — all served with grilled or confit tomatoes and fries, with sauces such as peppercorn, red wine jus, garlic butter or chimichurri.
For gatherings, larger joints (including shoulder of lamb or fore rib of beef) are available to order with 48 hours’ notice, reinforcing the pub’s convivial, table-sharing spirit.
Desserts lean towards indulgence: Black Forest gateau soft serve, baked-to-order Three Tuns cookies, or a classic cheese plate with Stilton, Camembert and Edam served with spiced port and apple chutney.
