Parents and Children Together (PACT), one of the UK’s leading adoption charities, is appealing for a permanent adoptive family for a bright and engaging one-year-old boy who needs a safe and loving home.

The charity, which supports families across southern and central England, is seeking adoptive parents for Ashley*, a young child described as cheerful, sociable and full of curiosity.

Ashley has Down syndrome and associated health needs, and requires a family able to understand and prioritise his ongoing care and development.

Ashley enjoys simple daily activities including playing with toys, spending time outdoors and visiting the park, where he especially likes the swings. He also responds well to being around both children and adults, and is described as thriving in social settings.

Because of his additional needs, Ashley’s future parents will need to provide an extra level of support and be ready to advocate for him as he grows, particularly in relation to his health and developmental progress.

The charity says adopters do not need previous experience of caring for a child with disabilities, but must be willing to learn and commit to long-term support.

PACT says it offers comprehensive preparation and specialist guidance throughout the adoption process. Families approved to adopt receive training and continuing help through the charity’s specialist teams, including access to therapeutic services, peer support groups and its online platform CATCH.

Mandy Davies, Assistant Director of Adoption Services at PACT, said: “Ashley is a joyful, resilient little boy who brightens the day of everyone he meets. We are committed to finding a family who can celebrate his strengths, understand his needs and give him the permanent home he truly deserves.”

She added: “Ashley needs a family who can offer him the love, patience and stability that will help him thrive.”

The charity is encouraging individuals and couples from all backgrounds to consider coming forward, including those who may not previously have thought about adopting a child with disabilities. All prospective adopters must be living in the UK.

PACT says long-term support continues after placement to help families feel confident and equipped for the future.
