Aureus School in Didcot came together in a moving act of remembrance as students and staff honoured members of the Armed Forces who have served and sacrificed for the country.

The annual Remembrance Service, held on school grounds, brought the entire community together for a morning of reflection, gratitude and quiet unity.

The service featured powerful and heartfelt speeches from service children and service partners, who spoke about the courage, resilience and dedication shown by those who serve – and the equally significant sacrifices made by the families who support them.

Their contributions provided a poignant reminder of the human stories behind the act of remembrance and highlighted the connections many at the school hold to the Armed Forces.

Students who are part of uniformed organisations marked the occasion by wearing their uniforms with pride. They took part in a formal drill performed in front of the whole school, demonstrating discipline, respect and commitment.

Their participation added a sense of ceremony to the event and served as a fitting tribute to the spirit of service at the heart of Remembrance Day.

Following the presentations, the entire school community gathered in the playground to observe the two-minute silence at 11.00am.

Staff and students stood together in stillness as the school fell quiet, creating a powerful moment of collective reflection. The atmosphere was one of solemnity and gratitude as those present paused to honour individuals who gave so much for the freedoms enjoyed today.

Kirsty Rogers, Headteacher at Aureus School, said the occasion was deeply meaningful for the school community. “Today’s service was a powerful reminder of the importance of remembrance. We are immensely proud of our students for the respect, understanding, and gratitude they showed throughout the event.”

She added that the service was not only a tribute to the past but also an opportunity for young people to consider the values of peace, community and service. “These are the values that continue to shape our world today,” she said.

The event once again demonstrated the school’s commitment to honouring the significance of Remembrance Day and ensuring that students understand the contributions made by previous generations, as well as the ongoing commitment of today’s Armed Forces personnel and their families.
