Oxford Bus Company will be providing a complimentary shuttle bus service to transport participants in the British Transplant Games.

The Olympic-style sporting event for people who have received organ transplants is being held in Oxford this weekend. The multi-sport festival, which will feature athletes ranging in age from three to eighty-plus, is organised by the charity Transplant Active.

The shuttle bus service will operate between Oxford, via Westgate Oxford and High Street and Bradmoor Farm on Friday and between White Horse Leisure Centre and Tisley Park on Friday and Saturday. Participants are being encouraged to use Oxford’s Park & Ride sites to connect to the free shuttle bus services.

Luke Marion, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director, said: “It is a pleasure to be able to provide support to those taking part in the British Transplant Games. The shuttle bus service will help people travel to and from the event sustainably, and reduce congestion in the area

“As a community-spirited company, we understand how important the event is to so many people and felt it is important to give back and help, as well as helping to raise awareness of what organ transplants can achieve, and encouraging people to sign the organ donor register.

“We’re also proud to say one of our colleagues, who successfully underwent a double lung transplant, is actively taking part in the games as a participating athlete, and we wish them, along with everyone else competing, all the best.”

Dr. Paul Harden, Chairman, Transplant Active, said: “The free shuttle services between our two busiest venues and our most distant, for the Games, is a great benefit to our competitors and supporters and to the environment. Our thanks to the Oxford Bus Company for entering into the community spirit of this event and supporting organ donation and the Games.”

The games have been staged annually since 1978 and have seen teams from 60 hospitals across the UK compete against one another. Oxford previously hosted the European Transplant Games in 2022.
