Construction specialists The M&M Group urge students to explore career opportunities
Students across Oxfordshire receiving their A Level results are being encouraged to consider a career in construction by one of the county’s leading employers.
The M&M Group, based in Cassington, employs 190 staff and specialises in demolition, asbestos removal, land remediation, waste management and recycling through its three entities – Maylarch Environmental Ltd, M&M Zero and M&M Waste Solutions.
The business is actively recruiting for a range of roles, including customer service, accounts, HR and compliance, marketing, driving, recycling and machine operation, as well as apprenticeships. All staff benefit from full training and ongoing professional development.
Career progression and variety
Pawel Stapor joined the business in 2007 in a junior role and is now the group’s Weighbridge Operator, having achieved a Level 4 High Risk Operator qualification.
“Working for the M&M Group was supposed to be temporary,” Pawel said. “But 18 years later, I’m so pleased to still be part of the team. It’s a great place to work with a fantastic atmosphere. There are no ceilings here – even with my long-standing role, I still run the production on our sorting station and assist with M&M Zero when required. It’s varied work, and I enjoy it.”

Michael Mullan’s journey is equally inspiring. He joined Maylarch in 2017 as an Asbestos Removal Apprentice, completed his NVQ in 2020, and is now a Senior Contracts Manager.
“Asbestos removal was completely new to me when I started,” said Michael. “With the team’s support, it’s now my specialism. I manage a skilled team of 12 on some of our biggest projects. It’s a big responsibility, but we’re a close-knit group, which makes all the difference.”
A growing, diverse sector
Group Managing Director Rob Fluckiger says construction careers offer far more than the traditional hard hat image.
“When people think of construction, they often focus on hands-on roles,” Rob said. “In reality, our operation is much broader, and those frontline jobs are supported by a strong network of professionals across many disciplines. We attract, develop and retain people who thrive in a fast-paced, growing sector – and we’d love to hear from anyone considering their options after A Level results day.”
Founded in 1972 as M&M Transport with a small team and three vehicles, the company initially focused on skip hire, becoming M&M Skip Hire in 1992.
Relocating to Worton Park near Oxford in the early 2000s, it evolved into M&M Waste Solutions, investing in a state-of-the-art Waste Transfer Station and Materials Recycling Facility to move from waste collection into waste management and treatment.
Maylarch, an award-winning environmental services company specialising in demolition, asbestos removal and land remediation, joined the group in 2018.
In 2021, M&M Zero was launched as the UK’s first all-electric van collection service, aiming to recycle 100% of waste collected as part of the group’s commitment to sustainability.
