East Oxford Community Centre will celebrate its full reopening with a community event inviting local residents to explore the redeveloped building and take part in a range of activities.
The open event will take place on Friday 27 March from 1.00pm to 8.00pm and will bring together community groups based at the centre alongside teams from Oxford City Council.
Visitors will be able to take part in tours of the building, arts and crafts activities for children and families, taster sessions and other activities designed to showcase the range of opportunities available at the centre.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
The centre reopened in November 2025 following a £5.9 million redevelopment project that transformed the original site into a modern and accessible facility while preserving key elements of its history.
The work was delivered by ODS and included a full refurbishment of the original building, installation of a new kitchen, upgraded toilet facilities including accessible showers, and the creation of four flexible community-use spaces.
The project also included important heritage refurbishment works to protect the original building.
A former section of the site occupied by the Chinese Community and Advice Centre and Fusion Arts was replaced with a new low-carbon three-storey extension.
The extension includes a balcony, solar panels and heat pump technology designed to improve sustainability.
Returning tenants due back at the centre include Oxford Chinese Advice Centre and Oxford Kurdish Association.
Since reopening last year, the centre has been operating under core opening hours while accepting bookings, hosting tours and supporting returning users.
With full reopening now underway, opening hours are being extended to allow more activity and bookings across the week.
Linda Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said:
“I am delighted that we will be celebrating the full reopening of East Oxford Community Centre with this community event.
“It is a great opportunity to come and take part in a variety of activities, and to explore the new space. I encourage anyone in the area to come along and visit.”
