Graven Hill Village Development Company has been announced as the buyer of the former Bodicote House offices, marking a significant step towards the future redevelopment of the village site.
The site, located in the centre of Bodicote, is expected to be transformed into a housing development designed to reflect local character and support community needs.
Owned by Cherwell District Council, the former council offices have been vacant since the authority relocated its headquarters to Castle Quay in 2025.
The council said selecting a buyer for the site was an important stage in securing a long-term future for the property while ensuring the redevelopment remains proportionate to the surrounding village.
Bicester-based Graven Hill Village Development Company has already delivered more than 650 homes at its flagship development and is recognised for a design-led approach that integrates housing with landscape and green spaces.
David Hingley, Leader of Cherwell District Council, said: “Our move to Castle Quay has allowed us to establish a modern, energy-efficient headquarters in the centre of Banbury, reducing running costs and improving accessibility for residents.
“Finding the right buyer for the old Bodicote House site is the next vital step, enabling the site to get a new lease of life that meets Bodicote’s future needs.”
He added: “We are delighted to be announcing GHVDC as the buyer of Bodicote House. With a proven track record for quality and innovation, their experienced team is well placed to create an exciting future for this village site, working in partnership with the council and local community to provide suitable and sustainable housing that works for the village and its residents.”
The council had previously engaged with another private developer before revisiting its options after changes to that company’s commercial position.
It said the offer from GHVDC was accepted because it provided strong value for taxpayers while allowing the council to retain influence over future development.
Adrian Unitt, Managing Director of GHVDC, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity to bring forwards a vibrant development in Bodicote.
“The team is looking forward to working closely with Cherwell District Council and the community to bring the site back into productive use, designing an innovative housing development that is sensitive to this characterful village and helps meet local needs at this unique location.”
A full planning application will be required before any work begins.
If approved, construction could start in 2027, with the first homes potentially available in 2028.
