Get ready to set sail on a big-screen adventure as the Ocean Film Festival World Tour is returning to the UK this autumn, showcasing a brand-new collection of inspirational ocean-themed films at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon, on 20 September.
Featuring awe-inspiring marine life, daring adventures, and breathtaking cinematography, the festival celebrates the beauty and power of our oceans through an international lineup of short films.

“The Ocean Film Festival is more than just a film event; it’s a celebration of our planet’s blue heart,” says tour director Nell Teasdale. “It aims to inspire a deeper connection with the sea, offering a deep dive into the heart of our oceans and the lives of those who cherish them.”
What to expect
The 2025 programme includes stories of resilience, exploration and ocean passion. Highlights include:
- Let Me Live (17 minutes) – From humble beginnings in a Cornish fishing village to becoming one of the world’s most fearless big wave surfers, British legend Tom Lowe takes on some of the planet’s most daunting swells.
- Aquaballet (5 minutes) – A poetic freediving performance by Marianne Aventurier, filmed in the turquoise waters of French Polynesia, where movement, light, and marine life merge into an underwater dance.
- Diving into the Darkness (30 minutes) – An intimate and thrilling portrait of cave diver Jill Heinerth, whose legendary expeditions span Mexico’s vast cave systems to Antarctica’s iceberg caverns, interwoven with powerful reflections on risk, courage, and discovery.

Dive into a night of ocean adventure at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon on Saturday 20 September at 7.30pm, when the Ocean Film Festival World Tour comes to Oxfordshire.
Each screening is hosted by a compère and includes a free prize giveaway with ocean-inspired goodies, making every event an interactive and celebratory experience.
From big-wave surfing to freediving and cave exploration, the festival’s films invite audiences to explore both the thrill of ocean adventure and the importance of ocean conservation.
“Whether you’re a lifelong surfer, a weekend paddleboarder, or simply fascinated by the mysteries of the deep, this festival promises an unforgettable cinematic journey,” adds Teasdale.
Founded in Australia, the Ocean Film Festival was created to inspire people to enjoy, explore, and protect the sea. This year marks the 12th UK tour, bringing ocean stories to audiences across the country.
