Oxford’s well-known gourmet sandwich and deli company Taylors has announced plans to open a flagship café at Oxford North, the city’s recently launched global innovation district.
Taylors Oxford North will form part of the development’s first phase, which combines state-of-the-art offices and laboratories with new homes, public parks and community amenities.
The scheme is designed to create a vibrant mixed-use destination for businesses, residents, visitors and the wider local community.
The new café will be located on the ground floor of The Red Hall, Oxford North’s landmark hub for science and innovation start-ups and SMEs.
Designed as an 80-seater venue, the space will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, with views across Fallaize Park, a two-acre landscaped public park featuring Olafur Eliasson’s illuminated Your planetary assembly sculptures.
Alongside Taylors’ established menu of gourmet sandwiches, salads, freshly made pasta, delicacies and specialty coffees, the café will also provide catering services for meetings and events within the district. The opening will further strengthen Taylors’ presence across Oxford, bringing its total number of locations in the city to nine.
The café is scheduled to open on 02 March 2026. Initial opening hours will be Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 3.00pm, with plans to extend trading hours as Oxford North continues to grow. The new site will increase Taylors’ locally employed workforce to more than 100 people.
Juri Vahala, chief executive officer of Taylors, said:
“In what is our fourth decade of operating, we’re thrilled to be bringing Taylors to Oxford North. This will be our ninth café and a flagship for our brand with stunning interiors and welcoming views.
“Oxford North is an exciting new place that aligns perfectly with our commitment to community, sustainability, and great coffee and food. We can’t wait to welcome our new customers when we open.”
Simon Ruck, managing director of Oxford North, added:
“We’re all about working with local businesses and so for Taylors to be partnering as our new café operator is great news for everyone. We have shared values in relation to quality, value, exceptional service and community.”
“Taylors’ focus on local sourcing and creating welcoming spaces along with its much-loved wide-ranging menu will add real vibrancy to the new district and be a benefit for the companies based here as well as those people living locally and visiting.”
Fit-out of the café has now commenced ahead of the planned March opening. Oxford North is being delivered by Oxford North Ventures, a joint venture between Thomas White Oxford, the development company of St John’s College, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and Stanhope.
