Westgate Oxford has announced the appointment of Clare Martin as its new Centre Director, marking a new chapter for one of Oxford’s leading retail and leisure destinations.
Clare brings extensive experience across the retail, food and beverage, and leisure sectors to the position. She has been a key member of the Westgate Oxford team since joining in 2018, during the first year following the centre’s major redevelopment and relaunch.
Over the past eight years, Clare has held a variety of roles within the centre’s marketing and retail teams before being promoted to Deputy Centre Director three years ago. During that time, she played a significant role in attracting several high-profile brands and experiences to Oxford, including beauty retailer Sephora, restaurant The Beefy Boys and social entertainment venue Flight Club.
In her new role, Clare will focus on ensuring Westgate Oxford continues to evolve as a vibrant destination that offers more than just shopping. Her vision centres on creating an all-day experience that combines retail, dining, leisure and community engagement, encouraging visitors to return regularly while also exploring the wider city.
A strong advocate for community partnerships, Clare has championed collaborations with local schools, charities and cultural organisations throughout her time at the centre. These partnerships have included initiatives with Made in Oxford, Dancin’ Oxford, Oxford Pride and Sobell House Hospice.
She is also passionate about making the most of public spaces within the development, including Leiden Square, which recently hosted activities as part of the Oxford Folk Festival.
Speaking about her appointment, Clare Martin said: “I am delighted to be stepping into the role of Centre Director at a destination I care so deeply about.
“Oxfordshire has been my home for nearly thirty years, so I know firsthand what makes this community so special. My focus is to build on the centre’s success ensuring it continues to be a vibrant, welcoming space that brings new brands and experiences to our city.
“By blending brilliant retail with fantastic dining, leisure, and community events, we want to create unforgettable experiences that make Westgate Oxford the go to choice for a great day out, while also encouraging our guests to explore everything the wider city of Oxford has to offer.”
Westgate Oxford is home to more than 100 brands and over 30 food and drink venues, combining international names with independent businesses in the heart of the city. The destination continues to position itself as a hub for shopping, entertainment and community events, attracting visitors from across Oxfordshire and beyond.
Clare’s appointment signals a continued commitment to enhancing the visitor experience while strengthening the centre’s role as a community-focused destination that contributes to Oxford’s cultural and economic life.
