Green light for landmark HQ redevelopment at Bicester Motion

Plans to transform a prominent heritage building at Bicester Motion into a landmark headquarters workspace have been approved by Cherwell District Council.

The 444-acre future mobility estate has secured consent to redevelop Buildings 146/147, which stand at the gateway to the Technical Site. The scheme will create a flagship HQ designed for motorsport and automotive mobility-led brands.

Originally constructed in 1926, the former Station Offices at the front, connected to the Operations Block at the rear, are neo-Georgian red-brick buildings with slate roofs — characteristic of British military and civic architecture of the period. Historically, they served key operational and administrative functions.

Under the approved plans, the buildings will undergo sensitive restoration alongside the addition of a contemporary rear extension. The combined development will provide 9,536 sq ft (886 sq m) of workspace.

The project will preserve the striking original façade while introducing carefully curated industrial materials and modern finishes internally, blending heritage character with contemporary design. As with the wider restoration of the Technical Site, the approach aims to complement the building’s classical features while creating a distinctive and flexible workplace.

Daniel Geoghegan, chief executive officer of Bicester Motion, said:

“This year we are proud to be celebrating the Technical Site’s centenary which includes the former Station Offices.

“Cherwell District Council’s approval of our plans to renovate and redevelop Buildings 146/147 marks a significant step towards a lasting future for this heritage asset.

“This project will respectfully maintain the original exterior as the gateway to our estate while enhancing the commercial space we have available.

“As we continue to draw in a vibrant community of innovative automotive and aviation brands, this project will ensure we continue to offer flexible, prominent and outstanding contemporary HQ spaces to help them discover and grow.

“My thanks go to our property team and our expert consultants for their work on this project.”
