Crazy Bear’s hotels in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire, and Beaconsfield have ceased trading after the companies operating the venues entered administration, cancelling all bookings and leaving customers facing uncertainty over refunds and gift vouchers.
The latest administration, announced on 27 October 2026, comes less than two years after the group’s previous administration in January 2025. Following that earlier collapse, the hotel business was acquired by directors Richard Booth and Tom Etridge in a reported £6.5 million pre-pack deal, allowing the two hotels to continue operating under new ownership.
The group’s history stretches back to 1993, when founder Jason Hunt established the original Crazy Bear pub in Stadhampton. Over time, the business developed into a hospitality group known for its distinctive interiors, restaurants, accommodation and spa facilities.
The reasons for the latest administration have not yet been established.
What customers need to know
The administrators have confirmed that all hotel stays, spa visits, restaurant reservations and event bookings have been cancelled. Gift vouchers purchased directly from the hotels or through third parties will no longer be valid.
Customers whose deposits or event payments were held in a ring-fenced account will be contacted about the return of any unused portion of their payment, provided the booking or event did not take place.
Other customers who paid by credit or debit card are advised to contact their card issuer or payment provider to establish whether a refund or chargeback is available. Eligibility will depend on the individual circumstances and payment method.
Customers who cannot obtain a refund through the ring-fenced account or their card provider will be given information about submitting an unsecured claim in the administration. Recovery through this process is not guaranteed.
Anyone with questions about bookings, deposits or claims can contact the administrators at crazybearhotels@bdo.co.uk.
