About the 2020 Beautiful Blenheim competition
The 2020 Beautiful Blenheim competition has been launched on the back of a successful exhibition in 2019, which saw the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) and Blenheim Palace team up to offer a unique free-to-enter photographic competition called “Beautiful Blenheim” to celebrate the beauty of this extraordinary location.
Shutterbugs, near and far, are invited to use their photography skills to capture the enduring beauty of Blenheim Palace and the majesty of the 2,000-acre Capability Brown designed landscape that surrounds the palace.
With Sites of Special Scientific Interest, including the Great Lake and the ancient oaks in High Park to the secret gardens and the open parkland, this unique UNESCO World Heritage Site is a perfect location for all styles of garden photography and all skill levels.
What’s in it for you?
Selected winners will form part of an exclusive exhibition at the IGPOTY exhibition at Blenheim Palace in 2020 and will be published in the next annual hardback book. There will also be special prizes for the first place including a Champagne afternoon tea for two, plus a private tour of Blenheim Palace.
Who can enter?
This free-to-enter special award is open to everyone (adults only) and is a chance to explore and capture one of the world’s most famous landscapes and its hidden treasures through photography.
What’s the deadline?
The 2020 Beautiful Blenheim competition is open for entries from 16 September 2019 until midday on 08 April 2020.
What is the International Garden Photographer of the Year?
International Garden Photographer of the Year is the world’s premier competition and exhibition specialising in garden, plant, flower and botanical photography.
Originally founded by five members of the Professional Garden Photographers Association in 2007, its first outdoor exhibition took place at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in May 2008 and quickly established itself as the world’s premier garden and plant photography event.
The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London remains a key partner in the project and is the annual host of the opening exhibition. There is also a rolling programme of touring exhibitions in the UK and across the world.
The main IGPOTY competition closes on October 31 every year, and winners are announced at the opening of the launch exhibition, the following February.
Winners of the 2019 Beautiful Blenheim competition were Cereta Drewett with “The Grand Bridge” in 1st place, with Robin Birchmore’s “Golden Hour” and Brian Lee’s “Between the Lines” in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Brian Lee’s “Early Morning From The Harry Potter Tree” was also a finalist, and Elaine Cox’s ‘Footbridge Reflections’ was highly commended.
