Our Lady’s Abingdon students achieve more than double A* grades over last year’s A-level results. Top Achievers in A-levels 2024: Benjamin, Benedict, Virginia, Alvin, Aaryan and Alfie.
Our Lady’s Abingdon has recorded another successful year of A-levels 2024 results.
The percentage of A* grades increased from 7% to 16%, higher than pre-Covid results. A fantastic 88% of EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) students achieved A* – A, and two-thirds of all students achieved a top grade (A*, A, B) in at least one of their subjects.
Five students, Benjamin, Aaryan, Alvin, Alfie and Benedict, achieved straight A* and A grades, compared to two last year. Benjamin achieved an incredible 4 A*s. Alvin also achieved an A in AS Further Maths, while Virginia, who joined OLA for sixth form, achieved her first choice of university and the next highest grades in the cohort.
Grades A* – B and C returned a similar result to last year, with some students achieving good academic growth on their GCSE results.
OLA has a diverse range of students, some of whom have additional needs, and it is a testament to the strong relationships between students and teachers that each and every individual is able to fulfil their potential.
In addition, 91% of OLA 6th students were offered places at their firm or insurance university at a range of top Russell Group and various other universities across the country.
The diversity of the students is reflected in their subject choices, with academic interests in Neuroscience, Psychology, Accounting and Finance, Mathematics with Finance and Economics, Geography/International Relations, and Mechanical Engineering.
The students are also pursuing diverse professional pathways. This is evident in fields such as Business Management, Criminology, Real Estate, Architecture, Sport Rehabilitation, Wildlife Conservation with Zoo Biology, and Fashion Marketing and Management.
Their creative and media-related aspirations are equally noteworthy. They are engaged in studies like Performance Design and Film Costume, Computer Games Development, and Human-Animal Interaction with Psychology, Broadcast Journalism, Creative Film, Television, and Philosophy.
Commenting on the results, the Head of OLA, Daniel Gibbons, said: “Academic excellence continues to be our goal at OLA and we are proud of the achievements of each and every student.
“Our wonderfully motivated students continue to embody our core purpose, “To each according to their needs”, with students of all abilities exceeding their expectations in all subjects.
“This year, in particular, our most able students have performed at the very highest levels with more than double the percentage of A* grades compared to last year, and more than double the number of students achieving straight A*/A grades.”
