A group of independent businesses from across the Cotswolds came together to mark World Kindness Day by surprising new parents at Chipping Norton’s maternity unit with thoughtfully curated artisan gift bags.

The gesture brought a touch of warmth and celebration to families welcoming newborns this November, reflecting the spirit of community that sits at the heart of the annual global occasion.

Each gift bag contained contributions from several local businesses, including handmade lavender bags and festive Christmas tree ornaments created by Beehive Home, a Chipping Norton interiors and lifestyle shop known for championing local makers. The items were selected to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of care to parents as they adjust to life with a new baby.

The initiative was coordinated by Tall Trees Care Home in Shipton-under-Wychwood, whose team provided packets of seeds and personalised handwritten notes for every parent. The team said they wanted to share something meaningful that new mothers and fathers could treasure at the start of their child’s life.

Home Manager Sharon Wassing said:
“At Tall Trees, we’re always looking for ways to give back to our fantastic local community. Having a baby is such an amazing time, so it was a real joy to come together with other local businesses to give something special to new parents in our community this World Kindness Day.”

Staff at the maternity unit were delighted to receive the donation on behalf of new and expectant families, expressing gratitude for the generosity shown by the local business community.

World Kindness Day, celebrated annually on 13 November, encourages acts of compassion in everyday life, both big and small. First launched in 1998, the day promotes kindness across communities, workplaces, and personal relationships, and highlights the positive impact such gestures can have.

Numerous studies have shown that giving and receiving kindness can result in reduced stress levels, improved cardiovascular health, and even boosted immunity.

Tall Trees Care Home, which recently underwent refurbishment, continues to build close ties with the local area as part of its commitment to community engagement. The home offers residential, nursing, dementia, and respite care in a peaceful Cotswolds setting. More information is available by calling 0808 223 5540.
