Steeleye Span, one of Britain’s most influential folk-rock bands, have announced a Winter 2025 UK tour to coincide with the release of their new studio album Conflict – their first in more than five years.

Together for fifty-six years, Steeleye Span transformed the landscape of folk music, taking it from traditional clubs to gold discs and international tours. With Conflict, the band continue their tradition of blending the old with the new, combining self-composed and modern songs with timeless traditional material.

The album’s title, Conflict, reflects both the challenges of the present day and the ongoing tensions in humanity’s relationship with the planet. The record underscores Steeleye Span’s enduring ability to weave contemporary themes into folk traditions.

The first single, Over the Hills and Far Away, was released on 09 May. The song is familiar to many from John Tams’ use of it in the 1990s TV series Sharpe, as well as from former Steeleye member Tim Hart’s version on his album My Very Favourite Nursery Rhymes. Steeleye Span’s new interpretation brings their distinctive sound and unmistakable energy to this classic folk song.

Their Winter 2025 tour will feature songs from Conflict, alongside a rich selection from their back catalogue and fan favourites. The band will also showcase new member Athena Octavia, a classically trained violinist and a member of indie-folk outfit Iris & Steel, whose artistry adds a fresh dimension to Steeleye Span’s sound.

The group remains led by iconic singer Maddy Prior, joined by Andrew Sinclair, Roger Carey, Liam Genockey, Julian Littman, and Athena Octavia. The tour kicks off with an extensive list of dates, including a performance at The Beacon, Wantage on Saturday 29 November at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £32.00 and Box Office can be contacted on 01235 763456.

Conflict is available now across streaming platforms and will also be on sale during the tour. For fans, the combination of a brand-new album and a nationwide tour represents a chance to celebrate both Steeleye Span’s legacy and their continued reinvention.
