The Unicorn School has announced the appointment of Alison Woodworth Sturla as its new Headteacher amidst exciting expansion plans.
Mrs Woodworth Sturla brings a wealth of experience in specialist education, most recently serving as Deputy Headteacher at Alfriston School, a special educational needs (SEN) school in Beaconsfield.
Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment in the school’s history, as The Unicorn School embarks on an ambitious expansion project to double its capacity.
The school has recently acquired the former Premier Inn and Ock Mill Beefeater restaurant on Marcham Road, located directly opposite its current site. This development will enable the school to increase pupil numbers from 120 to 240 over the coming years.
The expansion will also introduce a new post-16 life-skills provision, designed to meet the growing demand for specialist education. Plans for the new site include therapy rooms, one-to-one support spaces, a fully resourced library, and bespoke art and science classrooms.

Commenting on her new role, Ms Woodworth Sturla said: “I am very excited to join The Unicorn School at such a pivotal time, especially with the expansion to accommodate a greater number of students.
“I believe that my background in specialist education will allow me to support the growth and development of the school, while also contributing to the continued success of the excellent work already in place.”
The Unicorn School has long been committed to supporting pupils with specific learning differences, including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, and Speech and Language Disorders.
This latest expansion reflects the school’s ongoing dedication to delivering tailored education and support to a wider community.
