Oxford families can dive into a weekend of free fun this month as the Big Open Weekend returns to four of the city’s leisure facilities.
Organised by More Leisure Community Trust, the two-day event — taking place on 11 to 12 October — offers a packed schedule of free swimming and activity sessions, fitness classes, and taster events for all ages to enjoy.
Visitors can look forward to free swimming lessons, pool inflatable sessions, and children’s arts and crafts, alongside a variety of active experiences across the city’s leisure network.

The participating venues include Barton Leisure Centre, Leys Pools & Leisure Centre, Oxford Ice Rink, and Ferry Leisure Centre.
At Leys Pools & Leisure Centre, families can enjoy free soft play and Tag X sessions, while the Oxford Ice Rink will host public skate sessions, ice-skating taster lessons, and professional figure skating performances throughout the weekend.
Robert Jennings, Contract Manager for More Leisure Community Trust, said:
“We love the Big Open Weekend because it gives people a chance to explore how our centres can support their health and wellbeing. Whether it’s trying something new, getting active, or connecting with others in a friendly, inclusive environment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“It’s a great opportunity to experience our facilities for free and discover how small steps can lead to a healthier lifestyle. To see what’s on and book your activities, visit our website. We look forward to welcoming you this weekend!”

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford at Oxford City Council, added:
