The Oxford Kidney Unit Trust, a leading charity dedicated to supporting kidney patients and advancing renal and transplant research, has announced its support of the 2025 Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

For decades, the Trust has funded initiatives that enhance the lives of kidney dialysis patients and their families. This year’s Games, taking place in Oxford from 31 July to 03 August, mark a significant moment for the city and the kidney transplant community.

Preparations are well underway to welcome over 1,000 competitors and thousands of supporters to Oxford. More than 2,600 entries have already been registered across 26 sporting events, from athletics and swimming to cycling.

The event will also feature competitions and celebrations at some of the city’s most iconic venues, including Blenheim Palace and the University of Oxford. With 54 teams from across the UK and a wide range of transplant types represented, the Games promise to highlight the extraordinary spirit of the transplant community.

As part of the sporting programme for the British Transplant Games, the Games Donor Run – a community 5k fun run to commemorate donors and raise awareness of organ donation – will take place on the evening of Saturday 02 August in the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace.

Sponsored by the Oxford Kidney Trust, the event has already attracted over 2,000 entries, highlighting the strong community support for organ donation and transplant awareness.

Dr. Phil Mason FRCP, Chair of the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust, said: “We are delighted to support the 2025 British Transplant Games. This event is a powerful celebration of life and resilience, and it reflects the values we hold dear at the Trust: community, compassion, and progress in transplant care. We look forward to welcoming participants and supporters to Oxford for what promises to be an unforgettable event.”

Dr. Paul Harden, Consultant Nephrologist at the Oxford Kidney Unit and Transplant Centre and Chair of Oxford Games and Transplant Active, added: “The Games celebrate the triumph of transplantation and the indomitable spirit of those who give and receive the gift of life.

“Oxford, a city known for medical innovation, is honoured to host this inspiring event. Having been a member of the Oxford Kidney Unit since 2002, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of initiatives like these. The Trust’s support reflects our shared commitment to advancing care, supporting patients and families, and building a stronger transplant community.”

The Westfield Health British Transplant Games also showcase the breadth of organ transplants performed in the UK, with competitors representing kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, small bowel, uterus, and stem cell transplants.

Over 5,500 medals will be awarded during the event, recognising the extraordinary achievements of participants and their supporters. While current figures provide an exciting preview, they are subject to change as final preparations are made closer to the event.
