Westgate Oxford will step through the looking glass this July as it joins forces with The Story Museum to celebrate Alice’s Day with a programme of free, family-friendly activities inspired by Lewis Carroll’s iconic tales.
Taking place on Saturday 04 July, the centre will host a series of performances by Rough Magic Theatre, who will bring Carroll’s famous poem Jabberwocky to life using a blend of shadow puppetry and live singing.
The 30-minute shows will run at 11.00am, 12.00pm, and 1.30pm in the South Arcade, located next to LEGO.

Adding to the immersive atmosphere, characters inspired by Lewis Carroll’s whimsical stories will roam throughout Westgate Oxford during the day, offering visitors the chance to meet, interact with, and take photos with the fantastical figures.
Visitors will also be able to explore the Alice in Wonderland-themed ‘Looking for Alice’ Ox installation on the Roof Terrace, while enjoying sweeping views across Oxford’s skyline – the same dreaming spires that famously inspired Carroll’s storytelling.
Clare Martin, Centre Director at Westgate Oxford, said:
“Lewis Carroll’s whimsical stories are so special to Oxford and our community, so we’re delighted to be partnering with The Story Museum to host some of the Alice’s Day festivities at Westgate Oxford.
“We can’t wait to see Oxford locals and visitors alike immerse themselves in the day’s wondrous events.”
The celebration forms part of Oxford’s wider Alice’s Day programme, bringing the city’s literary heritage to life through performance, creativity, and interactive experiences.
