The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland has announced the addition of Bhoomi Kitchen in Oxford Headington alongside some thirty new restaurants in the country to be featured in the guide.
Sister to the original Bhoomi Kitchen in Cheltenham, this modern family-run restaurant – run by grandson Michael – is the only Indian restaurant in the city on the Michelin Guide list.
The restaurant has al-fresco dining on the terrace, overlooking London Road. It also offers a lunch menu (along with a full menu) on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The menu mostly features dishes inspired from the south Indian state of Kerala – from one-pot curries to the famous Masala Dosa and Keralan style barbecues.
A description of the restaurant on The Michelin Guide website says, “…spicing is judicious, presentation is attractive, and thalis are available until the early evening.”
The fifth live release by The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland, which also sees The Double Red Duke in Clanfield and The Lamb Inn in Shipton-under-Wychwood added to the list, comes ahead of the annual launch ceremony, when the new Michelin Stars, Bib Gourmands and Green Stars will be unveiled.
This is some good news for gourmands as two of Oxford’s Michelin restaurants will soon be closing their doors to customers.
In November, Oli’s Thai, which holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, said it would be closing in February and potentially reopening as a new establishment called Elle’s Deli in April or May 2022.
Then in December, 215 Kitchen & Drinks announced that it would not reopen in the new year. There are plans for a ‘new concept’ that will open there in February.
